Monique never asked for her life to be this hard — but the streets, the men she loved,
and one devastating night changed everything. At just fifteen, she becomes a mother to
Nia, a child she didn’t plan for but fiercely loves. What starts as a struggle turns into a
battle for survival when the father of her baby, Darius, proves to be dangerous,
heartless, and unwilling to step up — until it suddenly benefits him.
Years later, Monique is trying to rebuild her life. She’s in college, chasing her dream of
becoming a dentist, and doing everything she can to be a better mother for Nia. But one
reckless night at a party leaves her violated, pregnant again, and spiraling. Ashamed,
confused, and traumatized, Monique’s world crumbles when her father, James, kicks
her and Nia out of his house, forcing them into a homeless shelter.
As danger closes in and her mental health deteriorates, Monique reaches her breaking
point and ends up in a psychiatric facility on suicide watch — separated from her
daughter and stripped of control. While she’s locked away, Darius reappears from her
past, this time determined to claim his child. Using Monique’s instability against her, he
goes to court and gains temporary custody of Nia, shattering Monique’s fragile grip on
reality.
Inside the facility, Monique must confront her deepest fears: the baby growing inside her
that she doesn’t want, the trauma of her assault, and the possibility of losing Nia forever.
Isolated, heavily monitored, and fighting her own mind, she slowly begins to bond with
the life she carries — even as the world outside turns against her.
Worse still, the people who were supposed to protect her — her own mother and father
— slowly pull away. Her mother grows distant and overwhelmed, unable to face
Monique’s pain, while James, her father, chooses control and image over his daughter,
making it clear that Monique has become more of a problem than a child to be saved.
Left feeling abandoned by both parents, Monique is forced to fight alone from behind
locked doors.
